Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly improves on revenue generation

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 25, GNA - The performance of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly in its internal revenue generation has improved remarkably during the year 2004.

As at October, the assembly was able to realize 1.1 billion cedis out of the annual estimated revenue of 1.134 billion cedis, representing 97 per cent, which means the assembly has exceeded its estimated target for the year.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Capt. Steve Kwamena Armah, who said this in his address at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the assembly at Winneba on Thursday, commended the revenue section for their good performance. He said that the assembly received an amount of 7.4 billion cedis from the common fund administration and the HIPC fund as at the end of October 2004.

Capt. Armah said the Assembly made an expenditure of 2.132 billion cedis as against the estimated amount of 1.797 billion cedis representing 119 per cent.

"We need to take note of the realities on the ground when preparing future estimates so that it does not portray the wrong picture of over expenditure".

The DCE said, the Assembly has completed a number of development projects to improve the living condition of the people and mentioned some of them as school buildings, toilet facilities and construction of culverts.

He said the district is gradually warming itself up towards the eventual take off of the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, saying that, coding and listing of households have been completed at Winneba, Obrachire and Awutu Bontrase Council areas. The Presiding member of the assembly Mr Kwesi Esseku, thanked members of the assembly for their wonderful performance that has resulted in the district seeing more development projects. He called for continued co-existence among them for the rapid development of the district.
