Wassa Akropong (W/R), March 4, GNA - The Bogoso Gold Limited ((BGL) on Friday presented some items and a cheque totalling A225 million to Kasapreko Kwame Basanyi III and the people of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, towards the Akwantukese Festival at a ceremony at Wassa Akropong.
The items were two big cows, 18 cartons of assorted soft drinks and a cheque of A210 million.
In addition, five water reservoirs, which were not valued, were also given for the preservation water. Akwantukese is an annual festival celebrated by the people of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area.
Presenting the items on behalf of BGL, Mr Kojo Appiah Aning, Senior Community Affairs Officer, said the donation was in response to the invitation extended to the Mine by the paramountcy. He said the Mine cherishes and respects the culture of the people, adding, that was a token of BGL's participation in the festival. Mr Aning disclosed that a delegation from the Mine would be sent to the grand durbar of chiefs and people on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Kasapreko Kwame Basanyi III, who was grateful, said the presentation indicates the healthy relationship between the Mine and the paramountcy.
He wished the Mine could expedite action on its intended project within the traditional area, to help in its development. Nana Kwaw Fobil II, Chief of Bawdie and chairman of the festival's planning committee, thanked BGL for the donation. The festival, which started on Monday, 27 February 2006, would end on Sunday, March 5, 2006 with a church service. 4 March 06
