Residents of Akuapem, a sub community in Adansi Asokwa District of Ashanti region, have express worry over deplorable roads which mostly lead to maternal deaths.

Kumasi-based Angel FM correspondent Chukwu Joseph visited the area on Me Patamu Te Sen and interacted with the residents over their concerns.

In his interaction with some women, they intimated they have made efforts to bring authorities attention to their plight but it appears their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Ophelia Addo, a resident recalled how she had a miscarriage due to how terrible the road was. Some persons, she says, had to carry her as a result of the terrible nature of the road.

“When I was pregnant with my second child, I had to be carried on a wooden plank again to Adansi Anwona before I got a car to New Edubiase hospital,” she said.

Reports suggest about seven women have lost their children because they could not get a ride during labor.

The residents intimated that Andy Boahen, District Chief Executive of the area and their Member of Parliament K.T Hammond have done nothing to save the situation except delivering empty promises.

On their parts, the men complained bitterly about their source of drinking water. For over 20 years, they have only been given promises; they drink polluted water and are lucky to be alive, they mentioned.
