Cape Coast June 8, GNA- A bank Clerk was on Tuesday granted bail in a sum of 40 million cedis with a surety for stealing 22.9 million cedis by a circuit court at Cape Coast. Samuel Yeboah, 38, who pleaded not guilty would reappear on Friday June 18.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh that sometime in March 2001 officials from the Bank of Ghana Supervisions Department audited the accounts of the Nyankumasi -Ahenkro Rural Bank agency at Mankessim of which Yeboah was the clerk in-charge.
He said it was detected that Yeboah was operating two separate unauthorised accounts using ghost names and could not account for an amount of 22,978,538.00.
Inspector Amonoo said, the case was reported to the police and Yeboah was arrested and during interrogation, he confessed stealing the money and told the police that he had used it to purchase two vehicles. The two vehicles were impounded and upon investigation the accused was charged with stealing, the prosecution said.
