Bankame (Ash), March 30, GNA - The chiefs and people of Bankame in the Asante-Akim South district realised 13 million cedis at an Easter fund raising harvest in aid of an electrification project.
Mrs. Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area who attended the harvest, commended the chiefs and the people for initiating the project, which demonstrated their self-help spirit, saying that the government is ever ready to assist communities since the government alone could not shoulder development projects in all communities.
The MP, who is also the deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, assured the people that she would assiduously and diligently justify the confidence reposed in her to represent them in parliament.
Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, the District Chief Executive, advised the people to do away with unhealthy bickering, enmity, rancour and litigation to promote peaceful co-existence to ensure speedy development of the area.
He announced plans by the assembly to re-construct the dilapidated school block in the town and advised the people to send their children, especially girls to school to ensure a stable future for them.
Mr William Beckson, Managing Director of BBK Timber Limited in Takoradi and citizen of the town, appealed to Bankame citizens living outside to always endeavour to come home and assist in development projects.
Nana Tweneboa Koduah, chief of Bankame, commended the DCE for his immense contributions to the development of the town while urging the people to make the electrification project a reality.
