Baptist University College builds nursing school

Kumasi, April 23, GNA - The Ghana Baptist University College, has committed GH¢500,000.00 for the construction of a four-storey block for= a nursing school and health centre at the Abuakwa campus of the academic facility.

Professor Edwin K. Wiredu, Chairman of the Governing Council of the college, performed the ground breaking ceremony for the construction work= to start. The project includes lecture halls, children's ward, demonstration room, offices for lecturers and male and female wards. The block, which is being funded by the college, the Ghana Baptist Conference and its United Kingdom and US counterparts is scheduled for completion by the end of April, 2011. Prof. Wiredu said the project would contribute to the promotion of quality health care delivery in the country.

He said the college is determined to train adequate nurses to help address the health needs of the people. Prof. Wiredu expressed confidence that the nursing school would enrol t= he first batch of students in September, next year.

He appealed to the contractors to avoid delays and ensure that they finished the job on time. Nana Appiah Boateng II, Chief of Abuakwa, praised the University authorities for the initiative and pledged to release more lands to the institution for its expansion works.
