The Paramount Chief of Bawku, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has called for the creation of a new region out of the Upper East Region to better serve the needs of the people of Bawku.

This appeal was made during a visit by John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting the potential benefits of such a development.

Reading a speech on behalf of Chief Azoka II, the secretary to the chief, David Adoliba, emphasized the unique position of Bawku, noting that the area encompasses nearly six constituencies.

He compared this to other newly created regions like that of the Bono Region, which has fewer constituencies but was granted regional status.

According to the chief, the creation of a new region for Bawku would significantly enhance development efforts and address local needs more effectively.

"In creating a new region, we are not just looking at political boundaries but the potential for accelerated development and better governance," Chief Azoka II stated.

He believes that with a new regional status, Bawku could receive more targeted infrastructural projects, improved social services, and greater political attention, all of which are crucial for the well-being of its residents.

He further called for a well-furnished district hospital to improve the healthcare delivery in the area.

John Mahama, in his response, acknowledged the validity of the chief's request.

He assured the people of Bawku that the creation of a new region was feasible and would be seriously considered under his administration if he won the upcoming elections.

Mahama emphasized that his government would be committed to addressing the developmental needs of Bawku and ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

"We recognize the strategic importance of Bawku and the necessity for development and peace. Under my presidency, we will explore all avenues to make the creation of a new region possible and ensure that Bawku receives the attention it deserves," Mahama affirmed.
