Zebilla (U/E), July 23, GNA - Mr Abdulai Abubakar, Bawku West District Coordinating Director, has inaugurated an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee for the District at Zebilla.
All the seven political parties operating in the area are members of the Committee, which has a representative each from the security services, religious bodies and traditional rulers.
Among other things it would create a platform for the parties to dialogue, mediate, prevent and resolve conflicts to promote a peaceful atmosphere before during and after Election 2004.
Mr Abubakar underscored the need for tolerance among political activists to ensure peace and stability.
He said differences in opinions among politicians should be seen as an avenue for choosing the right party to improve one's socio-economic status and urged party supporters to desist from using abusive language against their opponents and to conduct their campaigns in a civilized manner.
Mr Abubakar said conflicts would only worsen their poverty and urged party activists to put the overall national interest above their individual and group interests.
The Regional Director for the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Sulemana Haruna said the demand for civic and democratic values called for concerted effort of all to enhance a peaceful and stable society for development.
He said teamwork was vital for any society that was determined to liberate itself from poverty and improve the socio-economic well being of its people.
Mr Haruna said anyone, who caused any conflict in the country's march towards political maturity, should be seen as an enemy of social progress.
He urged the Media to be circumspect in their reportage especially on partisan political activity and to seek accurate information to avoid inflaming passions.
