Zebilla (U/E), April 29, GNA - While the Bawku West District failed to confirm Mr. Imoro Adam Anaba as District Chief Executive, the Kassena Nankana District unanimously endorsed Mr. Emmanuel Andema as its DCEs. Mr. Anaba, who was expected to get at least 27 votes being two thirds of 41, he got 21 votes and the Electoral Commission would organize another round of voting within ten days. The assembly, after two rounds of voting, elected Mr. Moses Adukpam, a teacher, as the Presiding Member. He contested with Mr. Albert Avoka, a social worker. In the first round Mr. Adukpam had 27 votes while Mr. Avoka made 14 votes out of 43.
As none of them got the required number of at least 29 votes, there was going to be a second round of voting but Mr. Avoka withdrew, giving Mr. Adukpam a chance to poll 38 votes. Mr. Andema said commitment, dedication to duty and respect for others would be his guiding principle in the discharge of his duties. He said education, agriculture and health would be the main focus of the assembly. Mr. Mark Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, cautioned the assembly and all supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to leave out the language of "He is not with us" and treat all as one, saying, "Politics should not divide us, he is DCE for the whole District."
Mr. Woyongo advised the assembly members to cooperate with the DCE and work with one objective. He expressed concern at the high rate of fuel smuggling in the area and called on the assembly members to join in the crusade to stop it.
