Berekum Nursing and Midwifery College gets Board

A-17-member Board of Governors to manage the Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College was on Friday inaugurated at Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

It comprised Dr Paul Effah, a private consultant at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration as Chairman with Mrs Harriet Takyi, Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Mr Thomas Ameyaw, Internal Auditor at the Catholic University College of Ghana.

Others were Very Reverend Father Augustine Twum-Obour, Parish Priest of St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Berekum, Rev Fr Robert Kyere Kwarteng, Chaplain of Berekum Holy Family Hospital, Reverend Sister Wilhelmina Mensah, Director of Sunyani Catholic Diocesan Health Services and Mr Richard Osei- Kumi, Parish Council President, St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Berekum.

The rest were Reverend Sister Rosia, Administrator of Berekum Holy Family Hospital, a Mr Kwame Gyan- Kontoh , a Sunyani-based Legal Practitioner, Mr Joseph Atta Appiah of Sunyani Catholic Diocesan Youth Office and Professor Kwasi Addai, Head of Department Anatomy, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Other members were Professor Samuel Debrah, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Medical School, Mrs Cordelia Yeboaa Yeboah of Ghana Health Service, Sunyani, Dr Martin Atsu, Medical Director of Berekum Holy Family Hospital, Very Rev Fr Stephen Kow Bosomafi, Catholic Secretariat, Sunyani, Mrs Monica Nkrumah, acting Principal of the College and Mrs Florence Agyei Boafo, representing staff of the College.

Administering the Board into office, Most Rev Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani urged the members to seek for the growth and development of the college for the realisation of its full potential in the country.

The duties of the Board include exercising general control over the affairs of the College, setting up committees and determining their composition, powers and functions and managing and administering the finances and property of the academic institution within the provision of the trust deed that established it.

Dr Effah, on behalf of members expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work hard for the success of the College.

He said the physical and academic infrastructure of the college provided enough evidence that the wheels of the institution had been positioned for a take off into the tertiary sector.

Mrs Monica Nkrumah, Principal of the College said until the formation of the Board, the College was depending on the benevolence of the Catholic Diocesan Health Service Board to determine its overall educational missions and programmes.
