Berekum school gets water

The Right Reverend (Dr) Kofi Effah Ababio, Chairperson of Berekum West Presbytery of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has inaugurated a newly-constructed borehole for Presbyterian Senior High School at Brenyekwa in Berekum.

The project was funded by Taminco N.V. of Belgium, an international company that deals in Water for People; at the cost of GH¢125,000.

Rev. Ababio commended the company for the gesture and appealed to non-governmental organisations in Ghana to emulate the example.

Mr Randolph Stephen Armah, the Ghanaian representative of the company, acknowledged the immense support of Mr Frank Sergeant, a Dutch and Director of the company in the execution of the project.

Mr Joseph Mensah-Diawuo, Headmaster of the school expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the institution had been without adequate water since its establishment 18 years ago.

He said the school, with a population of 1,700 students, had only one borehole and the supply of pipe-borne water by the Ghana Water Company was erratic.

This has compelled the students to queue for water everyday for hours, a situation that is seriously affecting academic work, he added.**
