Best Teachers awarded prizes

Techiman (B/A), March 9, GNA- Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, has stated that education is the cornerstone of nation building as it benefits the individual, the family, the community and the entire nation.

Mr. Osei-Antwi said this at the weekend when he presented prizes to some teachers, institution and schoolgirls as part of the 47th independence Anniversary celebration at Techiman.

He said the Assembly in its efforts to raise the level of education in the municipality had spent more than 140 million cedis on scholarships for students in basic and tertiary institutions. He explained that the Assembly and the government were providing infrastructure and other educational facilities and it was up to the people to appreciate such efforts.

In the primary division, Mrs. Sophia Tinkorang Mensah of Techiman Ameyaw L/A was adjudged the best teacher with Mr. Michael Yaw Asante of Asueyi L/A primary, placing second while Mr. George Opoku Kwabena of Ayeasu/Atrensu L/A primary taking the third position.

They received cash and television sets and roofing sheets as their prizes.

Similar prizes were presented to other winners. A parade of school children, students and voluntary organizations was held at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa District to mark the Independence anniversary.

Mr. Emmanuel Duku, District Chief Executive, took the salute and read the President's anniversary address.
