Bitire communities get electricity

The people of Bitire, a farming communities in the Asunafo North Municipal of Brong Ahafo Region, could not hide their joy but took to the street amidst singing and dancing for seeing their communities illuminating with lights for the first time in their lives as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku, commissioned an electrification project to serve eleven communities in the area.

There was a large durbar of chiefs and heads of department to commemorate the programme.

In his address, Hon. Doku who doubles as the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), said in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to better the lives of Ghanaians, the Government has outlined a lot of projects that would ensure that the people of Ghana gained access to basic social amenities, hence the electrification project.

According to him, over 50 communities have already benefited from the electrification project in the Asunafo North Municipality. “A number of boreholes and wells have also been drilled across the municipality”, he added.

He said even though there had been major setbacks soon after the 2012 general elections, citing the Supreme Court Petition which lasted for about eight months, series of market fire, incessant strikes by civil servants and numerous labour agitations as a force which attempted to derail the wheel of prosperity; the government has equally delivered on its promises.

Hon Doku said in terms of education, government has built numerous classroom blocks in areas where classes were held under trees and Teachers’ Quarters in many communities to accommodate teachers. He said CHPS Compounds have been built across the municipality for effective healthcare delivery and ultra-modern public places of convenience have also been put up to sanitize the municipality.

He added that government through Cocobod is distributing free bags of fertilizers and insecticides to farmers all over the country.

Hon. Doku assured that the main road linking the Bitire communities would be tarred soon to enhance easy carting of farm produce to Goaso for sale. He promised to complete the construction of the Kwayiekrom Bridge as soon as possible.

Hon. Doku urged the people to handle the electricity with extra care because it could trigger fire outbreak.
