Bloody clashes in Nandom in the Upper West Region on Thursday night have left in its wake several residents with machete wounds and houses burnt down.

It is not immediately known was sparked the fight but reports suggest the chaos follows a misunderstanding over who should be the Chief Imam for the community.

A team of police officers which stormed the area after distress calls were placed to them had to fire warning shots to disperse the crowd and restore calm.

The Nandom District Police Commander, ASP John Opare in an interview explained that his outfit has called for reinforcement and will maintain security presence in the area until they’re sure the situation is fully under control.
