Donkorkrom (E/R), April 6, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, has appealed to tender boards of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to award contracts to competent contractors. He also urged members of the tender boards and opinion leaders to supervise projects to ensure that they are completed according to specification. Dr Apea-Kubi said this when he addressed Heads of Departments and Agencies and non-governmental organizations at Donkorkrom in the Kwahu North District as part of a three-day visit to the area. He advised engineers and consultants of government projects not to defend contractors who failed to execute their contracts satisfactority.
He said measures were being taken by the security agencies to solve the menace of Fulani herdsmen whose activities were affecting farmers negatively throughout the country. The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Kingsley Boahene, said the district used to be one of the deprived ones in the country but with the interventions of donor agencies such as the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), World Vision Ghana and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) it has some facilities. CMr Boahene said classroom blocks, roads, markets, bore holes and bungalows had been provided to improve the living standards of the people. He said there were still some challenges such as access to good roads for farmers to transport their produce to the marketing centres, provision of smaller ferris to reach people in remote areas and the activities of Fulani herdsmen who destroy crops, commit armed robbery and rape.
