The body of a tourist which drowned in the Boti falls has been found nine days after the incident.

The body of the 32-year old was washed ashore in the late hours of Thursday, August 17, 2017.

The deceased, Jeremiah Bediako met his untimely death after he tried to save his American friend who was drowning in the water body during a tour to the tourist site.

The Eastern Regional Manager of Ghana Tourism Authority Frederick Adjei-Rudolph appealed for the availability of lifeguards and safety equipment to forestall such tragedies.

“Tourism thrives on safety and security apart from the level or standard of the attraction. Whoever is visiting any attraction wants to be sure that the place is safe and secured.

“Over the years, we have tried our best to ensure that attractions that have water bodies, attractions that are a bit adventurous, we put necessary safety measures there. For attractions with water bodies, there should be adequate signage there and lifeguards there should be in life jackets, access to healthcare, all the personnel working at such attractions must be trained in first aid,” Adjei-Rudolph told Accra-based Kasapa FM.

Adjei-Rudolph also confirmed the GTA will be partnering with NADMO and other agencies to establish safety centers at all tourist sites across the region.
