Yameriga (U/E), April 27, GNA- The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Rockson Ayine Bukari, at the weekend warned that the law would deal drastically with men who are found guilty of beating their wives.
"These days the women have a collective voice, and receive support from NGOs who are in the forefront in the fight for equality and recognition for them.
So those found of beating your wives must be careful not to fall prey to the law", he said.
Mr. Bukari was speaking at an educational forum organized by the Northern Network for Education Development (NNED) at Yameriga, a community in the Talensi constituency.
He said men must learn to co-exist peacefully with their wives and avoid torturing and humiliating them at the least provocation. The forum dubbed "Politicians go back to school" was to give the people the opportunity to meet and interact face-to-face with politicians and stakeholders on how education could be promoted in the area.
It was attended by Assemblymen, Members of Parliament, Municipal Director of Education and the Municipal Chief Executive. He called on parents to give attention to the education of girls, adding that there is honour and peace in every community where most of the women have acquired some level of secular education.
The MCE further urged rural women to take antenatal clinics seriously, saying the men should be in the forefront in ensuring that their wives get these service which promotes good health for pregnant women.
Mr. Bukari urged the people to be honest in the payment of revenue charged on their cattle and bicycles. He explained that the revenue generated by the assembly is used to undertake development projects in the district.
