Bolgatanga, June 24, GNA - The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly on Friday endorsed the President's nomination of Mr Isaac Nsoh Amoah, as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The Assembly has a full membership of 42, but 37 members turned up for the balloting, supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission. Out of the number 28, or 75.67 per cent voted in favour of Mr Amoah while nine, representing 24.33 per cent voted against his nomination. Having crossed beyond the mandatory 67 per cent mark, Mr Amoah was
thus confirmed by the Assembly as substantive MCE. Friday's exercise was the Assembly's second attempt at confirming the nominee. The first event was on June 16 when Mr Amoah polled 64.7 per cent, which fell below the required two-thirds majority of members present.
In an acceptance speech, Mr Amoah expressed thanks to assembly members for endorsing his nomination and pledged to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him. He called for total support from the Assembly, saying that singleness of purpose was crucial if they should succeed in the crusade against poverty and ignorance.
The Regional Minister, Mr Boniface Gambila, observed that the success of Friday's exercise was the result of deep understanding on the part of assembly members, of current trends in the municipality. He urged them to continue to pursue the path of unity, forgiveness and a sense of duty. They should also put partisan matters aside and concentrate on the development of the municipality and its people. The Regional Minister urged the MCE to let his actions be guided by fairness and to refrain from any form of discrimination in the course of his duties.
Madam Agnes Atayilla, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said members of the House were one family and would accord the new chief executive the same support as they gave to his predecessor.
