Bolga Municipal Assembly honours hardworking teachers

Bolgatanga, Dec. 5, GNA - Mr. Isaac Nsoh Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive at the weekend commended teachers in the deprived areas for their devotion and commitment to duty. Mr. Amoah made the commendation in an address read for him by Mr. Adams Arafat Abubakari Tia, Deputy Municipal Coordinating Director, at the presentation of 65 bicycles and 45 gas cookers and cylinders to teachers in Bolgatanga.

He said getting more teachers to the rural areas was of great concern to the Municipal Assembly, and that giving incentives to such deserving teachers was in the right direction. Mr. Anthony Aziabah, Municipal Director of Education, called on the Ministry of Education and Sports to review the Best teacher Award to cover all hardworking teachers at the district level. Mr. Aziabah said it was not fair to identify one teacher as the best, while a lot of them were actually involved in teaching. He suggested that the award be changed to "Hardworking Teachers Scheme" to embrace more deserving teachers.

He said the prize of 320 million cedis could be shared among the districts to organise incentive packages for hardworking teachers instead of just giving that money to one teacher. He suggested that with careful planning based on the Rural Incentive packages sponsored by the World Bank, a lot of teachers could be motivated to work hard. 05 Dec. 05
