Bolga teachers attend two-day financial management workshop

Bolgatanga, June 27, GNA - A two-day financial management workshop for all heads of pre-schools primary and junior secondary schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality has ended at the Teachers Resource Centre in the Upper East Regional capital. Participants were taken through data collection, book-keeping, and preparation of School Performance, Improvement, Plans (SPIP) and record keeping. In an address, Mr Anthony Aziabah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, called on participants to put to good use what they had learnt at the workshop to ensure transparency and accountability of school resources.

Mr Aziabah said the payment of capitation grants of 30,000 cedis per female pupil and 25,000 cedis per male pupil in the basic schools in 40 deprived districts called for heads to be abreast with keeping proper accounts of how they spend the money. Mr Aziabah said the money could only be assessed after the heads had drawn SPIP's highlighting the areas of priorities including sports, culture, administration, Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) and minor repairs.

He emphasized that with the payment of the capitation, the pupil should be levied for the areas indicated. He said schools which have development projects being undertaken by parent teacher associations, should seek clearance from the regional director through the municipal directorate.. He warned that heads who misappropriate capitation grants would be prosecuted and dismissed from the service.
