Bolgatanga, July 31, GNA - Mr Daniel Nankeb, a records Officer at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, at the weekend said education was important in nation building.
He said it was for this reason that the Assembly had made education its priority in order to develop its manpower needs.
He noted that the Assembly had built over 24 schools in the Municipality under the District Wide Assistance Project (DWAP) and the GETFUND, since 2004 to date to enhance the standard of education.
Mr Nankeb said this during the Municipal Education Oversight Committee (MEOC) meeting that was aimed at finding solutions to challenges facing the education sector in the Municipality.
Mr Benedict Yindol, Deputy Director for Human Resource and Manpower Development, Ghana Education Service, commended the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly for the school infrastructures.
He however complained that since 2003 till date the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly had not awarded its hard working teachers, saying the Assembly's inaction was a disincentive to teachers as they now refuse to take part in the Best Teachers' Award.
