Kuntanase (Ash), Jan. 23, GNA- The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), will this year plant 10,000 tree seedlings in the area, as part of efforts to protect the environment from degradation.
Teak and acacia seeds had already been nursed and would be ready for transplanting in the rainy season.
Mr Daniel Asuo-Afram, the District Co-Ordinator of NADMO, who announced the initiative to the Ghana News Agency on Monday at Kuntanase, said the seedlings if ready, would be distributed to 50 schools in the district for the exercise.
He said the project was specifically aimed at protecting the environment, lives and properties including private and public buildings.
Mr Asuo-Afram commended the district assembly for initiating tree planting and called on the various communities and schools to support the programme.
He also appealed to traditional authorities in the area to also initiate tree planting programmes to complement the efforts of NADMO towards disaster prevention.
