Boy, 15, shot dead at Akyem Kwarbeng

A 15-year-old boy identified as Jester Osei has been shot dead by a security officer of a Mining company at Akyem Kwarbeng in the Atiwa district of the Eastern region.

The deceased together with colleagues went to the site to engage in galamsey operations.

The private security man on duty allegedly shot the boy at close range in the stomach, with his intestines gushing out.

Yaw Ofori, a resident at Kwarbeng, in an interview with Ultimate News’ Kojo Ansah, said the incident which occurred on Thursday has thrown the entire community into a state of shock.

He explained that most school children in the area engage in galamsey activities during vacation.

The security man has been arrested by the Police to assist with the investigation.

Confirming the incident to Ultimate News, the Kwarbeng District Police Commander, DSP John Yeboah explained that on the December 5, 2016, police had information at 12: pm that a shooting incident had happened at the KIT Mining company.

He said the Police quickly rushed to the scene and found the body of Jester Osei lying in a pool of blood.

He said information gathered indicates that the 15-year-old pupil of Kwarbeng Presby JHS went to the site to collect gravel and wash it to check if he will get some gold, however, the watchman at the mining company, Kwadwo Emmanuel shot the boy without provocation killing him instantly.

DSP John Yeboah explained that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Kibi Government hospital awaiting an autopsy.
