Brazil, Ghana collaborate to fight child labour

Brazil is to collaborate with Ghana to explore ways in which the two countries can collaborate to eradicate the menace of child labour.

Ms Irene Vida Gala, the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, announcing this on Tuesday during a call on Nii Armah Ashitey, Ghana’s Minister for Employment, used the occasion to formally invite Ghana to a child labour conference in Brazil later this year.

Ms Gala commended the Ghanaian government on how it was handling the issue of “kayayei” (female head porters) in the country.

She said Brazil was ready to assist Ghana in its development agenda, especially in the field of construction.

Ms Gala said the Brazilian government was supporting Ghana to rebuild the Kumasi market, which was gutted by fire a few months ago.

Nii Armah Ashitey thanked the ambassador and accepted the invitation assuring that Ghana would fully participate in the conference.

Mr Ashitey said government was doing everything possible to ensure that the menace of child labour was curtailed.
