Brekuso Chief Calls for Unity, Development

The Chief of Brekuso in the Eastern Region, Nana Oteng Korankye II, has called on citizens in the area to bury whatever rancour existed among them and rather pool their physical and material resources together for speedy development of their community.

He further sounded a clarion call to all sons and daughters of Brekuso to go home and invest some of their resources there to the benefit of all and sundry.

The chief made the call during the celebration of the Ohum festival held by the people recently.

He disclosed that, a few weeks before the celebration, all the elders who had before that time distanced themselves from the town, met him and they collectively smoked the peace pipe for a common destiny.

He told the people that, as they had been able to sink differences that existed among some of them, they, the people should also join hands and find solutions to the challenges that confront them.

Touching on development, Nana Oteng said, under his leadership as the chief of Brekuso and the Twafohene of the Akuapim Traditional Area, they have been able to undertake a lot of projects. This include the provision of electricity to the town, the construction of a modern place of convenience, rehabilitation of the town's primary and junior secondary schools and the construction of a master's bungalow and teachers' quarters to give teachers a decent place to lay their heads.

Additionally, the chief has rehabilitated the town's royal house, which was built by their forefathers over 200 years ago.

He however said, he could not complete those projects without the support and assistance of the people as well as outside assistance. He therefore thanked the European Union, the Akuapem South District Assembly, the International Women's club and other organisations for their support and assistance.

He disclosed that, the town had been able to attract some investors to invest heavily in the area and expected that very soon, the people would see the physical structures of those projects.

Other projects earmarked by the people are water provision, the building of a police station, community centre and a school library for the children.

On the regional boundary, dispute between the Twafo division of Akuapem under the Eastern region and the Gas under the Greater Accra region, the chief appealed to the government to resolve the issue without delay, since the people need peace for development.

He also appealed to the government to assist the people by constructing the Dome-Brekuso to Kitase road. He said the construction of the road would go a long way to boost agriculture and facilitate vehicular movement in the communities.
