British assists communities in Upper East Region

Bolgatanga, May 23, GNA - The British High Commission had established a two classroom block at the Navrongo Community Development Centre in the Upper East Region resourced with 20 computers and 16 sewing machines.

The block, established at a cost of 875 thousand pounds is to empower the communities economically.

Mr Nicholas Westcott, British High Commissioner to Ghana announced this in when he paid a courtesy call on the Regional Minister, Mr. Alhassan Samari at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. The visit was to assess the work of British Volunteer workers and inspect British sponsored projects.

Mr Westcott said 461 women from six communities in the Talensi-Nabdam District had been supported with a dual corn and sheanut mill at the cost of 8,300 pounds.

This, the Commissioner noted, would help the women's groups to be able to take care of themselves and their families and to help improve their living standards. Mr Samuel N'lary, the Regional Chief Coordinating Director commended Britain for her support to Ghana and said the support had made great impacts to the economy. 23 May 08
