Brong-Ahafo Presbytery of PCG launches 40th anniversary celebrations

Techiman(B/A), Feb. 14, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) on Sunday launched its 40th anniversary celebration with a call on the church to rekindle its evangelisation work.

Reverend Richard Robert Brobbey, Acting Chairman of the Presbytery, launching the celebrations at the Techiman Trinity Chapel, regretted that the church had relegated evangelism to the background.

This, he said, had paved the way for people with questionable characters to take advantage to spread falsehood and doctrine of prosperity among Christians.

Activities for the five-month long anniversary celebration would include sports and quiz competitions at the zonal level within the 28 districts of the Presbytery.

The celebrations would be climaxed with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 16 in Sunyani.

Rev Brobbey said the Presbytery had within the last 40 years achieved progress in education, health and the establishment of more branches of the church.

However, he said, the church required a strong financial support to expand its physical and spiritual activities and called on the congregation to be committed to God's work and discharge their financial obligations faithfully.

Rev Brobbey advised the congregation to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide them against immoral acts and aim at righteousness, love, unity and peace, the cardinal principles of a good Christian.

Rev Reuben Owusu-Asanso, Presbytery Clerk, said until 1996, the Brong-Ahafo Presbytery was part of Asante Presbytery.

He said, there were only eight districts and 66 branches within the region by 1996 but now had 28 districts, 306 branches and 108 preaching posts with 40 reverend ministers, 151 trained catechists and 70,000 church members. 14 Feb. 06
