Sunyani (B/A), July 19, GNA- A 12-member regional planning committee to see to the preparation and implementation of action plans for the regional celebration of the golden jubilee next year was on inaugurated on Wednesday.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister charged the regional planning committee to ensure that the regional capital and all-important attractions within the region are at their spick and cleanest best throughout next year. He appealed to them to ensure that the environment, which will receive visitors, was beautiful delivering reliable utility and related support services during the coming year.
The committee, the Minister stressed, would also be required to draw up schedules of what needs to be done, and a final report presented to the National Planning Committee for consideration. It would also be expected to identify a number of projects and activities to be executed to act as legacies to mark the 50th anniversary celebration of Ghana's independence. Such projects are expected to serve as useful practical structures for the benefit of future generations of Ghanaians.
Among the projects to be identified for execution include golden jubilee recreational parks in all districts, alma mater jubilee legacies, the jubilee greening initiative, the capital gateway arches and the regional jubilee obelisks.
The Minister said a proposal has been laid for a series of publications on various aspects of Ghana, its people and its history to educate both Ghanaians and thousands of visitors expected to visit next year.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah appealed to the members of the committee to apply themselves with the task ahead of them to make the anniversary have the desired impact it deserves in the region, since several of the events planned as part of the celebrations will be carried out simultaneously in all the regional capitals adding that the celebrations should be manifested as truly national in character.
