Brong Ahafo to benefit from CBRDP

Sunyani, March 20, GNA - Sixty one area councils in Brong Ahafo are to benefit from the Community Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) under the Poverty Reduction Programme.

Mr Mensah Abrampa Agyabeng, Rural Institution Development Specialist said this when he visited Atuna in Jaman South District on Wednesday to inspect a GH¢15,000 clinic project. He also interacted with community members to know the challenges and the way forward for the smooth implementation of the project. Mr Agyabeng said the programme, under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was sponsored by the World Bank. Each beneficiary community would receive GH¢15,000 each for a need project identified by the area council members. Mr Adjabeng said 32 area councils among the beneficiaries had already received their first allocation of GH¢500 each while four area councils namely Atuna and Asunsu in Dormaa municipality, Suma and Nafana West in Jaman North district, had started with the implementation of their sub-projects on clinics, places of convenience, nursery block and water.

He explained that the CBRDP was one of government interventions under Ghana's poverty reduction strategy to enhance the quality of life of beneficiaries, as well as improving their social infrastructure and access to support services.

Mr Adjabeng urged the people to revive the spirit of volunteerism to assist in the implementation of the project in the area because allocations for the project were insufficient. He cautioned that beneficiaries who could not perform well with the money would not receive the second allocation and could also not enjoy any assistance from the project again. "The projects will be monitored to ensure they are completed within 100 days," he added.
