The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the next government he forms will ensure a commercial bank is opened for the people of Bunkpurugu.
He explained that “This will guarantee residents have access to banking services 24/7.”
Speaking at his Building Ghana Tour at Kambatiak, he indicated that almost all state or public institutions are on the Mamprusi side of the community on account of the security situation in Bunkpurugu.
In addition to lobbying for a commercial bank to be sent to the area, John Mahama said he would ensure that the Bunkpurugu/Nakpanduri districts get one of his promised six regional hospitals for the new regions.
For this promise to be effective, he promised to establish a military camp at Bunkpurugu.
The purpose of the military camp, he added, is to improve the security situation there since Bunkpurugu is a border town to the Republic of Togo and is prone to terrorist activities.
The former president also stated that he will ensure a collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces and the Police to establish an anti-armed robbery squad much needed “so that you can go about your activities without being molested”.
The security situation being thus improved many institutions will establish branches in Bunkpurugu and “employ people who can work another shift beyond 5PM” under his 24-hour economy programme.
John Mahama was responding to Dr. Abed Lamangin Bandim, the Member Parliament for Bunkpurugu, who requested for a “TVET institution [Technical, Vocational Education and Training] so that our people can learn skills and get a trade”.
“Our people want me to tell you that they want to get into the security services, the police, the army,” Dr Bandim said. “But every time they are told they need English and Maths to enter into those services. Because there is no TVET institution here, our people do not get the skills training for those trades that the security services require”.
