Tepa (Ash), Nov 22, GNA- The Scholarship Unit of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has distributed a quantity of scholarship forms to cocoa farmers in the Ahafo-Ano North district, whose children sat the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in April 2003 and had gained admission into government assisted schools.
Speaking to newsmen at Tepa on Friday, Mr Joe Baah, an Administrative Officer of the Scholarship Unit, said the distribution of the forms which started on November 3, will end by November 27 in all the six cocoa growing regions after which the completed forms will be forwarded to the unit in Accra by December 4.
He said the scholarship will be given to a limited number of applicants but added that all children of applicants stand equal chance irrespective of sex or school one attends.
Mr Baah said by November 27, the unit hopes to cover 37 towns in the Volta, Eastern, Central, Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti and Western regions to distribute application forms.
Some of the farmers who spoke to the GNA said they had information late and did not know the requirements and appealed for the extension of time to enable them to collect their ward's original results slips and admission letters.
