A group calling itself the Pro-Nkrumah Unity Movement and the Convention People's Party (CPP) honored the former Volta regional minister, Hans Kofi Boni, in Kpedze within the Ho West District of the Volta region on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Hans Kofi Boni was the longest-serving Volta regional minister (they were called regional commissioners) after Ghana gained independence in 1957 and also served as the first Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West Constituency in the 1970s under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's government.

The delegation from the movement and the CPP, led by Engineer Explo Nani-Kofi, spent moments with the former minister. They shared fond memories and sang songs of praise for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

"We see this as necessary because today is Republic Day. He (Hans Kofi Boni) is the only member of Kwame Nkrumah's cabinet of ministers still alive, so we see him as the only representative of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana right now, so we decided to come here as a way of marking Republic Day," Explo Nani-Kofi said.

The former minister was first appointed by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as commissioner for the Volta region. He then moved to become the first Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency. After serving as MP, he was again appointed by Kwame Nkrumah as Minister for Food and Nutrition until 1966, when the CPP government was overthrown.

Hans was later called by President Hilla Limann as a presidential adviser and later ended his political career as the national vice chairman of PNC.

The veteran is 96 and has nine children, dreaming of rekindling the visions of the late Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.

Reawakening CPP and Nkrumah's visions and legacies:

Explo Nani-Kofi said the Pro-Nkrumah Unity Movement is on a mission to rebirth the CPP and "raise the spirit of the followers of Kwame Nkrumah because, if you look at Nkrumah's vision and principles, it is unmatched throughout Africa."

"The only way for Africa into the future is the resurrection of Kwame Nkrumah's legacies; without Nkrumah's legacy, the African Union cannot hold," he added.

The former Volta regional CPP organizer, Paul Nuwordu, said, "It was very unfortunate that Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown in 1966. The foundations that this man laid for this country and for Africa and black people, not only here in Ghana but on the continent of Africa and across the diaspora, were so great."

"Those who overthrew this man still regret it today, so we need to revisit all that he had for this country and manage to rebuild our country."

The party, Hans, and his children at the event held in his private residence in Kpedze used the organization to send condolences to the family of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's firstborn, Prof. Francis Nkrumah, who passed away recently.

A call on traditional authorities:

The delegation also paid a courtesy call to the Kpedze traditional council, where they shared pleasantries.

The Chiefs eulogized Hans Kofi Boni and Kwame Nkrumah for the roles they played in building Ghana after gaining independence from colonial rulers.

In solidarity, they observed a minute of silence for the late first President and all fallen pioneers.
