Cape Coast Jubilee Park also known as Victoria Park lacks some minor maintenance. Victoria Park as it was previously known has been the official ceremonial grounds for most of the events that go on in the metro. The park was named after a British queen in the era of colonialism.
Sources state that it is the first grounds/field to host the first ever football match to be played in Ghana. Jubilee Park now hosts events like funeral, national events like the 6th March parade, church crusades, parties and other business activities.
Recently, Cape360gh.com visited the park and these were the observation.
Fishermen around the park have turned the grounds into net storage. They dry their wet nets on the ground and also keep their huge nets just by the walls of the park.
School going pupils between the ages of 5 to 10 were found removing the blocks that were used to form the main grounds of the park. Using it as a goal post in ‘small poles’ soccer.
Weeds growing on the grounds and the supposed entertainment pub created within the park is used by fishermen to store their nets and repairs.
Dirt has also engulfed in and around the grounds with sachet bags, empty bottles , plastics and more.
Cape360gh.com is calling on the CCMA to restructure the maintenance of this great asset to enable the good use of the place.
