Capitation and My first day at school begin in W/R.

Agona Nkwanta (W/R), Sept 16, GNA - Ms Rosemond Blay, Ahanta West District Director of Education, has said the introduction of the Capitation Grant and the "My first Day at School" was laudable. She said the initiatives were appropriate and could reverse the low enrolment in some schools in several parts of the country. Speaking to the GNA in an interview on Thursday, she said the capitation grant was a big relief for parents and had given new hope to rural children.

''Several communities in the Ahanta West District who had earlier refused their children education due to the high cost, would change their minds and enrol their children.''

Ms Blay said Agona Nkwanta, Apowa, Butre, Abura and Ajumako all within the Ahanta West District celebrated my first day at school with smiles and the presentation of gifts. She said chiefs from the areas got actively involved in welcoming the children to school and advised them not to fear but see the schools as their second home.

Mrs Justina Fiakpornu, the Western Regional Director of Education, celebrated the day with pupils of some primary schools in the Nzema East District.

The children were presented with biscuits and candies while they sang, danced and thanked the director for the items. Mrs Fiakpornu explained the Capitation Grant to them and asked them to attend school daily, on time and learn hard.
