Cardinal Turkson calls for unity among churches

Mampong (Ash), Aug 6, GNA- His Eminence Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson has urged the clergy to tailor their messages to mirror God's desires for unity, peace and love.

These desires, he said, if realised would encourage the clergy to pray against all evil machinations so that the noble goals of national security and economic liberation which Ghanaians had set themselves could be achieved.

Cardinal Turkson was speaking during a courtesy call on Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene on Thursday as part of his three-day visit to the Ashanti Region.

He prayed for peaceful elections and urged Christians to pray until peace, unity and love, which were very vital to true democracy, were attained.

"Let us, as individuals at the very minimal level, re-orientate our minds towards fulfilling these desires".

The Mamponghene appealed to Ghanaians not to consider the elevation of Cardinal Turkson as an individual honour or for Catholics alone but should see it as a national achievement.

Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, the Sekyere West District Chief Executive, speaking at a dinner he hosted for the Cardinal and his entourage, said the peace being enjoyed in the country now was divine and asked religious groups to continue to intercede on behalf of government and the nation.
