Cardinal Turkson urges priests to lead transparent, sacrificial lives

Amisano (C/R), Nov. 23, GNA - His Eminence Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, on Saturday stressed that it should be the "agenda" of every priest to preach the gospel, be obedient, transparent and totally submissive to the work of God and of humanity.

They should therefore, continue to serve and pray for the church and the nation to enhance its growth, and that of civil society. Cardinal Turkson stressed these points when he ordained 17 deacons as pr iests of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast at the St Teresa's seminary at Amisano, near Elmina, as his first cardinal duty since his elevation last month.

The ordination of 17 priests at a time, was the first in the history of the church, and attracted a capacity crowd, including members of other religious groups, as well as people from all walks of life. He pointed out that priesthood, was a sacrificial vocation and that they must lead lives that would truly portray their chosen vocation, adding that they should emulate the priesthood of Jesus Christ who sacrificed his life to bring salvation to humanity.

Prayers were said for the nation, the new priests and their parents.
