Care givers under LEAP urged to use funds judiciously for children - Social Welfare Director

Mr James Ayesake, the Acting Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has called on caregivers under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to ensure that funds for children was well utilized.

He said access to good nutrition, healthcare and education are crucial to the children under the programme and for the achievement of the intended purpose of LEAP.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, Mr Ayesake said good education for the children under the programme would alleviate poverty and encourage long-term human capital development.

He called on the caregivers to ensure that the children are in school and remained in school until they completed their second cycle education.

“We need to let the programme function well so that the poverty we are fighting against is reduced in households and communities” he said.

He said plans were also afoot to start another cycle of payments for 2018 and stressed on efficient utilization of the funds.

He commended the LEAP programme and said it was making a good impact on the vulnerable people in the region.
