Catholic Church hands over school block to community

Antwi-Adjeikrom (Ash), Sept 30, GNA - The Rev Fr Prof Thomas Poku of the Kwadaso Catholic Parish in Kumasi has appealed to parents to put high premium on the education of their daughters. In addition, they should train their children to cherish the values of self-discipline, honesty, hard work and to be God fearing. The Rev. Fr Prof. Poku said it was through this that the nation could assure itself of selfless and responsible leadership to drive its future socio-economic and political development agenda. He was speaking at the inauguration of a block of three classrooms with an office and store built for the Antwi-Adjeikrom Junior High School (JHS) in the Atwima Mponua District at a cost of GH¢50,000.

The Kumai Metropolitan Archdiocese of the Catholic Church provided the funds in response to an appeal the community made to the Catholic Church about five years ago. The Rev Fr Prof. Poku urged the pupils to accept responsibility for their own future by working hard on their books. He appealed to traditional rulers to release more land to both the government and the missions for school and health development. Mr. Vincent Amissah, the District Coordinating Director, noted with satisfaction the significant improvement in schools enrolment in the area as a result of interventions like the school feeding programme and the capitation grant.

Mr Bismark Obuobi, the assembly member, said they were grateful to the Church for the facility and appealed to the district assembly to build a primary school block and to supply the community with building materials to complete a teachers' bungalow the people are building. Nana Kennedy Owusu Amofa, Akwamuhene, donated two computers to the school.
