Catholics celebrate Assumption of Blessed Mary

Buoho (Ash), Aug. 14, GNA- Thousands of Roman Catholics from all walks of life on Saturday undertook a seven-and-half kilometre penitential journey from the Saint Peter's Minor Basilica in Kumasi to Saint Mary's Sanctuary at Buoho.

The event formed part of the celebration of the Assumption of Blessed Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.

The celebrants, who made the trip in six hours, carried the effigy of Virgin Mary, prayed with the holy rosary, sung and danced in praise of Mary, who they considered as the Queen of heaven and earth. The week-long celebration, which involved singing competition, talks, healing, thanksgiving, Mass session and vigil keeping, is on the theme, "Mary and the Eucharist".

In the Eucharistic celebration after the walk, Monsignor Matthew Adusei, Rector of the Saint Peter's Regional Seminary at Pedu in Cape Coast, said the way to God was through living virtuous life and if Christians could abide by this, God would show them the way to progress. He urged them to be courageous and truthful in worshipping God so that they could become holy, saying, "If we want to get near to Him, let us worship Him in truth".

Monsignor Adusei urged Christians to be inspired by the walk to the sanctuary to change their lifestyles to the glory of God, stressing that many Christians could not achieve their religious goals because worldly things attracted them. 14 Aug. 05
