The chiefs and people of Chakali Traditional Area in the Wa East District have expressed their gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating Dr Henry Seidu Daanaa, a native of the area as Minister in his government.
Mr. Kuri Danyagri, Chairman of the Chakali Youth Association, said in a statement that the President’s nomination of Dr Daanaa was an honour bestowed on all Chakali people.
He said the people of the area were also grateful for the fact that this was the first time in the country’s history that the leader of the nation had found it necessary to appoint a physically challenged person to the high office of a Minister of state.
“We hope and pray that Dr Daanaa will get Parliamentary approval and we are also confident that he will discharge his duties to the satisfaction of the President in his quest to advance his government’s Better Ghana Agenda”
Dr Daanaa, who is visually impaired, was nominated as Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affaires.
Mr. Seidu Mohammed Saani, Assembly man for Bulenga Electoral Area in the Wa East District Assembly, also said a statement that Dr Daanaa’s appointment would motivate people in the rural areas to send their disabled children to school.
“With more of such appointments in future our rural folk who usually frown on sending children with serious physical defects to school would now see it as normal and worthwhile to spend their resources on the education of such children,” he said.
Mr Saani said Dr Daanaa would definitely prove that a disabled person could even perform better than people who have no physical handicap.
