Charge approved fares - Swedruhene tells Swedru/Accra GPRTU

Agona Swedru, July 16, GNA - The Swedruhene, Nana Kobina Botwe II, has appealed to the Swedru/Accra branch of the Ghana Private Transport Union (GPRTU) to charge the approved 10.500 cedis instead 11,000 cedis to curtail the misunderstanding with the District Security Council (DISEC) and passengers.

He warned that the Swedruman Council would not sit unconcerned for some drivers to take the law into their hands to create confusions and division among the District Assembly Members and the authorities. Nana Botwe said this when he settled a dispute between an Assembly Member, Mr Douglas Gyebi and the Swedru/Accra GPRTU executives over lorry fares at Swedru.

He cautioned taxi drivers plying within the town and its environs to charge the fixed fare before the law caught up on them. About two months ago, the DISEC and transport operators in the District fixed new lorry fares but an enquiry by the Assemblyman as to why the Swedru/Accra branch of GPRTU was charging 11,000 cedis instead of the approved fare led to arguments.

The Chief of Swedru who is also Acting President of Nyakrom Traditional Council called on transport operators in the District to be law abiding to ensure peace and stability in the area.
