Breman Amanfopong, C/R, July 6, GNA - The Ankobeahene of Breman Amanfopong in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, Nana Atta Ampim Boadu has appealed to the European Union (EU) and the District Assembly for clinic.
He said that at present the people had converted a gari-processing factory into a clinic, adding that, this had delayed the installation of the machines.
Nana Boadu was speaking at the inauguration of a 90.7 million-cedi Nurses Quarters at Breman Amanfopong. He expressed appreciation to the EU, the government and the District Assembly for the quarters to ease the accommodation problem, which faced Nurses posted to the clinic and appealed for a market. Mr Jonathan Alabi, National Development Analyst of EU commended the chiefs and people for their communal spirit and urged them to keep it up in the Sixth Phase of the EU Micro Project, which begins this month. He said the EU had committed 25 million Euros for Sixth Phase, adding that, the second half of this year would be used for procurement of equipment and preparations for the start of the execution of the projects from January 2006. Mr Alabi stressed the importance of communal labour in the execution of EU projects and urged the people to discard the wrong notions that were given on contract.
Mr Alex Addea Addison, District Coordinating Director, said the District was selected for the Fourth Phase of the Project in 1997-98 under which schools, markets, toilets, culverts and quarters for Nurses and Teachers were provide in the District. He expressed concern about the low communal spirit in some communities and expressed the hope that new strategies would be adopted to ensure the early execution of the projects. Mr Addison said EU projects also created employment for local artisans such as carpenters, masons, plumbers and electricians, which "put money into their pockets".
