Chief back home, after over 3 years abroad

Akrofrom (B/A) July 25, GNA - Nana Ameyaw Yeboah II, Chief of Akrofrom and Asenkyenhene of Techiman Traditional Area, has called on the people to contribute meaningfully to the development of the area.

The chief was addressing a durbar organised by the traditional council to welcome him on his arrival from Toronto, Canada after a three-and- half years stay abroad.

He said since the Government alone could not meet the demands of all communities, there was the need for people in the area to initiate and complete projects to win Government support.

Nana Yeboah urged the people to avoid backbiting and other negative tendencies that could divide them into factions, a trend that would retard progress.

The chief, a Pharmacy technician, advised the people to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS.

He commended the town development committees, the sub-chiefs, especially the Krontihene of the area, for "holding the fort" during his absence.

Nana Owusu Achiaw II, Kyinamansahene of Akrofrom deplored the poor results of 2004/2005 BECE in the area, which he attributed to students and pupils' attendance at video-shows, dances, funerals and involvement in other negative practices.

Nana Achiaw advised parents and guardians to shun bad traditional practices and let the education of their children, especially the girl- child be their priority.

In a welcoming address, Mr. Anthony Twi, Assembly Member for Akrofrom said the people completed a number of projects, including provision of health facilities, school buildings, sanitation, market and street lights while the chief was away.

The chief donated four million cedis towards the completion of some uncompleted projects.
