Babianeha (B/A) June 28, GNA - Nana Asiedu Duodu Taku Ababio, Chief of Babianeha in Brong Ahafo has called on his people to assist in the establishment of an agricultural college in the town. He said at a meeting with his elders and the people of the town that the college would allow farmers in the region greater access to technical know-how in the industry. Nana Taku stressed that the initiative would be of benefit not only to the region but the nation as a whole as school drop-outs and the unemployed youth could seek admission to learn both formal and non-formal agricultural practices.
He said the traditional council would convene a meeting with the sub-chiefs, opinion leaders and well-meaning resident and non-resident citizens to draw an action plan towards the project. Nana Owusu Sikaena, Nkonwasoafohene, said communal labour exercises would be planned towards the completion of the project and others. Meanwhile, a group of women calling themselves, "Babianeha women caucus" have expressed their support for the establishment of the college.
They called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Education and Science, as well as Ghana Education Service to give approval to the initiative.
The women maintained that the college would help improve the storing and marketing of agricultural produce "so that farmers' labour would not be in vain".
