Chief laments over bad roads in Atwima

Chief of Atwima, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II Chief of Atwima, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II

The chief of Atwima in the Ashanti region Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II has lamented about the bad state of roads in his communities, and believes if immediate action is not taken to address the situation, they will soon be cut off from the rest of the region.

Describing the roads as the worst in the region, Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II said successive governments had neglected them, making him the sole financier to reshape the roads yearly, to become motorable, which are below standard.

The communities include Techiman, Denkyemboso, Boko, Ohwim among others.

Speaking in an interview with Otec news’ Agya Sam, the spokesperson to Atwimahene, Nana Agyenim Boateng II, who doubles as the Atwima-Boko Manse Odikro, said the Atwimahene has for the past five years since his installation, solely embarked on rehabilitation works on some sessions of the roads in the communities, running into millions of Ghana cedis.

“The bad state of our roads has become a great source of worry to our Chief since he ascended the throne for the past five or six years. While he carries out yearly rehabilitation exercise on the roads single-handedly, regrettably, no government has supported him yet he would not like his communities to be cut off from the rest part of Ashanti, ? Nana Boateng lamented.

Showing to Otec news a road bridge that links Techiman to Boko, which is near collapse, Manse Odikro described it as a death trap to both pedestrians and drivers, and called on the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly to come to their aid to avoid a disaster.

“The nature of the bridge does not allow two vehicles to pass each other, we pray that we do not experience heavy rainfall this time, am afraid it will collapse at the least rainfall,” he complained.

Apart from the poor nature of the road, Nana Agyenim Boateng II also complained of dust that emanates from the untarred roads, which is affecting their health.
