Chief of Naval Staff visits Western Region

Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Deputy Western Regional Minister, has called for the rehabilitation of buildings belonging to the Ghana Navy in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

He said rehabilitating them would help improve the image of the Navy in the society.

Mr Gyan said this when Admiral Jeff Biekro, Chief of Naval Staff, paid a courtesy call on him at the start of a two-day visit to the Western Region.

Mr Gyan expressed happiness with the cordial relationship existing between the Western Naval Command and the Regional Coordinating Council.

Admiral Biekro also paid a courtesy call on Captain Anthony Cudjoe (rtd), Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, at his office at Sekondi.

Captain Cudjoe said the Metropolitan Assembly would continue to assist the Ghana Navy to enforce the marine laws at sea

He suggested that the Navy exhibit appropriate warnings in areas close to the oil rigs such that fishermen would not get near them.

Admiral Biekro said the Navy was determined to keep the country’s territorial waters safe for economic activities.

He said the Ghana Navy is impressed with the support it is receiving from the Western Regional Coordinating Council.
