Students of Kwahu-Atibie Midwifery and Nursing Training College gave Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah and his entourage a rousing welcome during his 5-day tour of the Eastern region.
The Chief of Staff, having taken note of the discipline and civility shown by the students at the event, commended them and assured them of government's commitment to tackle the needs of the college.
The Principal, Mrs Paulina Osabutey, listed a number of things that the College needs in the immediate and pleaded with government for quick intervention.
According to her, the college which has a student population of 592, lacks adequate classroom space, a situation which makes teaching and learning difficult.
She also said the college is in dire need of a hostel, since the college's 2 hostels and 3 rented ones are not enough for the students' accommodation.
The Principal also requested for a mini bus, after she expressed her gratitude to government for providing the college with a 60-seater bus, explaining that sometimes, it is more economical using the mini bus.
She also made mention of a 20KVA power generating plant that the college has been expecting for sometime now.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Victor Asare Bampo told the students that their abated allowances have been disbursed and that some nursing training colleges have already received theirs. He assured them that in a day or two, they would also receive theirs.
He reminded the well behaved students of the numerous employment opportunities that awaits them made possible by the numerous health facilities being built by President Mahama.
He said government is mindful of the fact that for a country to achieve success in the provision of good health care for its citizens, the three things that matter first and foremost are people, equipment and infrastructure, adding that government is ensuring total commitment in that regard.
The Chief of Staff, tasked the principal to write a request to GETFund through his office for his endorsement.
