Baffour Addo Kwata Titiriku, Odikro (chief) for Supresu in the Eastern Region, has said that chiefs were frontline agents of good governance.
“A chief is an agent of local or community development”.
A traditional ruler must show interest in the social amenities that have been selected for implementation in his local community, he said.
Baffour Titiriku was interacting with the Media Network on Social Accountability Unit of the Local Government Capacity Support Project at Supresu near Akroabo in the Suhum Municipality. He was speaking on the topic: “Do you know the number of approved social amenities in your locality”?
Baffour Titiriku said that the establishment of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) has aided fiscal decentralization in the country.
“More importantly, it has facilitated infrastructural and human resource development at the local level”, he said and added that the fund has also suffered a number of challenges in many ways which included delays in the transfer of funds, lack of transparency and low levels of accountability.
He appealed to elders of the Supresu community to release lands for the provision of social amenities, in order to help open up the area.
