Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Chief executives to set up conflict resolution management committees to work with the District Security Committees to prevent and resolve conflicts.
He said chieftaincy and land disputes which sometimes resulted in clashes posed serious threat to the rapid development of the Region.
The Deputy Minister said this on Wednesday at a Regional Co-ordinating Council Meeting in Accra.
He appealed to the assemblies to fashion out innovative strategies to earn adequate revenue from local sources to complement the efforts of government in funding schools, health facilities, roads, water, electricity and sanitation.
Nii Vanderpuye said the government would, on September 11, launch the Ghana Internally Generated Funds Technical Support Project to build the capacities of chief executives towards improved revenue generation.
He said the perennial problem of flooding in the Region could be attributed to poor and inadequate drainage systems, unauthorized construction of buildings and poor garbage disposal practices resulting in choked gutters.
Nii Vanderpuye appealed to them to create enabling environment for the private sector to grow by eliminating bureaucratic tendencies that frustrate potential investors in the country.
“I urged all assemblies to acquire Lands Banks in your respective districts so that such lands can easily be made available to potential investors on some agreed terms,” he said.
He said the Indian High Commission had offered scholarship to seven of its staff in the Region to undertake training in various fields in India and the Chinese Embassy has offered scholarship to five staff to pursue courses in China.
Nii Vanderpuye commended the European Union for providing funding for the Regional Co-ordinating Council to carry out its monitoring and evaluation exercise.
