Bolgatanga, March. 28, GNA- Mrs Agnes Chigabatia, Upper East Regional Deputy Minister, on Friday assured the women of the Bolgatanga market, who lost their wares to fire on Thursday night, of Government support to enable them to survive their businesses. "The Government is doing all in its power to alleviate poverty in this country and we would not let you sit idle because you have lost all your capital", she told the women.
Mrs Chigabatia met with the women, when she went to the market to see the extent of the fire damage and to sympathise with the victims. Fire broke-out at the grain section of the Bolgatanga market and destroyed over a thousand bags of grain belonging to some traders in the market.
Mrs Chigabatia asked the victims to be patient and not to allow people to influence them negatively, saying that, the situation had nothing to do with politics and they would be given support as citizens of the country, who had been struck by disaster. Madam Salamatu Abubakari, spokesperson of the victims said five large stores with food stuffs such as millet, maize, soya bean, beans, rice, sorghum, groundnuts and dry vegetables had been completely burnt. The victims were as at 1300 hours today, are still sorting out what ever they could salvage from the rubble.
